Working Conditions Aboard the Amzan

In a dramatic incident on August 24, 2026, at 6:37 AM, the tanker 'Amzan' experienced a fire after being impacted by an unidentified projectile while traveling 63 nautical miles west of Yanbu, close to the Bab al-Mandab Strait along the Saudi Red Sea coastline. The vessel, which had its AIS turned off at the time, was reportedly struck by a projectile believed to have been launched from Yemen, over 1,000 kilometers away. Fortunately, all crew members aboard the 'Amzan' were reported safe and accounted for following the event. Bahri, the owner of the tanker, confirmed the attack and stated they were in continuous contact with the crews onboard, actively working with relevant authorities to monitor the unfolding situation. Meanwhile, the Iranian-aligned Houthi movement claimed responsibility for the strike, stating that their forces employed a ballistic missile to target the vessel, asserting that their attack led to a direct hit and the subsequent fire onboard. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) released an initial report on the incident without specifying the attacker or detailing the type of projectile involved, leaving the Houthi’s narrative regarding the attack and weapon used as an unverified claim. As investigations continue, the full scope of this maritime incident remains under scrutiny.
