CMA CGM Group Enhances Asia-Europe Shipping Services with New FAL 23 Route
In an effort to adapt to the evolving dynamics of the Asia-Europe shipping market, CMA CGM and its Ocean Three partners have decided to optimize the FAL2 and FAL3 services. This initiative introduces a newly revamped FAL 23 service, designed to meet customer demands more effectively. The enhancements come with several key features, including exceptional transit times, especially for routes linking Asia to major European ports such as Le Havre, Rotterdam, and Antwerp. Notably, Vietnam is set to enjoy a direct connection with the introduction of a new call at the Cai Mep Deep Sea terminal in Ho Chi Minh City. The revamped service will also enhance import and export operations at Le Havre and Rotterdam, featuring new export calls at Felixstowe and new import calls at Chiwan. Commencing on October 13th from Asia, the service will deploy twelve vessels ranging from 12,000 to 15,000 TEUs. The vessels will follow a comprehensive new route that includes stops at Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Cai Mep, Port Kelang, Le Havre, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Hamburg, Felixstowe, Jeddah, and more. The Eastbound rotation will officially kick off from Antwerp on September 28th with the CMA CGM LA PEROUSE. Moreover, CMA CGM is optimizing its FAL1 and FAL8 services with significant changes. A new call at Qingdao has been added to the FAL1 route, effective from mid-August 2015, allowing for a three-day reduction in transit times from Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, and Port Kelang to major European destinations like Algeciras, Southampton, Dunkirk, and Hamburg. This route will be serviced by the company’s largest vessels, including the CMA CGM KERGUELEN, CMA CGM GEORG FORSTER, CMA CGM VASCO DE GAMA, and CMA CGM BOUGAINVILLE. The new rotation for this service includes Tianjin, Dalian, Pusan, Qingdao, Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Port Kelang, Algeciras, Southampton, Dunkirk, Hamburg, and others. As of October 13th, an additional stop in Xiamen will be added to the FAL8 service. These enhancements by CMA CGM underline the group's commitment to providing superior service and efficiency in international shipping between Asia and Europe.
CMA CGM LAPEROUSE and CMA CGM TITAN Lead the Celebration of New Suez Canal Opening
On Thursday, August 6th, a significant milestone in maritime history was marked with the inauguration of the New Suez Canal, led by two prominent vessels from the CMA CGM Group: the CMA CGM LAPEROUSE and the CMA CGM TITAN. The CMA CGM Group, recognized as the world's third-largest container shipping company, is a long-standing ally of the Suez Canal, operating 11 key shipping lines that traverse this vital waterway. The participation of the CMA CGM LAPEROUSE and CMA CGM TITAN at the forefront of the inaugural procession underscores the group’s commitment to the canal and its strategic significance in global trade. The swift completion of the New Suez Canal, finalized in just one year, symbolizes President Al-Sissi’s vision for a “New Egypt” and reflects the Egyptian government’s proactive approach to accommodating anticipated increases in navigation traffic and the size of vessels. Since 1983, the CMA CGM Group has utilized the Suez Canal for its shipping operations, with an impressive 637 of its vessels having traversed the canal in 2014 alone. Looking ahead, with projections indicating that 700 container ships, each capable of holding up to 18,000 containers, are expected to pass through the Suez Canal in 2015, the CMA CGM Group anticipates a growing presence in this crucial maritime link.
CMIT Welcomes Historic Arrival of Largest Container Ship in Vietnam
On December 19, 2011, the Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) made maritime history by hosting the CMA CGM LAPEROUSE, marking the largest container vessel ever to dock at a Vietnamese port. This monumental event took place in the Cai Mep – Thi Vai Port Complex, located in Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province. The CMA CGM LAPEROUSE, owned by CMA CGM—the world's third-largest container shipping company—boasts a remarkable capacity of 13,830 TEU and a deadweight tonnage of 157,092. This significant milestone comes as CMIT and CMA CGM join forces for the second time to navigate the regulatory requirements necessary to accommodate increasingly larger container ships at Vietnamese ports. The arrival of the CMA CGM LAPEROUSE drew notable figures, including Vietnam’s Vice Minister of Transport, Nguyen Hong Truong, Deputy Director of Vinamarine, Do Hong Thai, and Ba Ria – Vung Tau Provincial President Tran Minh Sanh. Representatives from the Vung Tau Port Authority, marine pilots, and key CMA CGM clients also gathered to celebrate this historic moment. Currently en route from Asia to Northern Europe, the CMA CGM LAPEROUSE's visit sets the stage for an anticipated upgrade in the size of all CMA CGM vessels calling at Cai Mep, as the existing FAL3 service will transition to accommodate larger ships operating on the FAL1 string starting in March 2012. Jean-Charles Tassoni, General Director of CMA CGM Vietnam, emphasizes the importance of deep-water access and terminal capabilities, stating, "With Cai Mep being the last load port before direct service to Southampton, having the infrastructure to handle such colossal vessels is more crucial than ever."
