Hazardous Substance Leak Prompts Removal of Containers from Anne Sibum in Rotterdam

Mar 26, 2019 18:15

On March 24, 2019, the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) undertook the urgent removal of nine containers containing hazardous substances from the vessel 'Anne Sibum' at the Euromaxx Terminal in Rotterdam. Alarmingly, six of the nine containers were found to be leaking a corrosive substance. This leakage posed the risk of triggering a violent chemical reaction when combined with other hazardous materials onboard. Investigations revealed that the packaging of these substances did not meet safety regulations, with the actual dangers being significantly underestimated in the accompanying documentation. After a thorough cleanup, conducted at the carrier's expense, the affected containers were stored at the terminal in Rotterdam. They will remain there until the carrier fulfills several critical conditions to ensure safety and compliance. This includes providing accurate classifications for the hazardous substances, using the appropriate packaging, and delivering properly completed documentation detailing the materials involved. The 'Anne Sibum' had departed from Coryton at 6:30 PM on March 23, arriving in Maasvlakte at 11 PM before continuing its voyage toward Sweden. On March 26, at 6:15 AM, the vessel shifted to the ECT Delta Container Terminal located in Amazone Port, eventually departing at 8:15 PM with Gothenburg as its next destination, scheduled to arrive by March 28 at 5 AM.

Urgent Medical Evacuation of Ukrainian Sailor near Crozon

Feb 25, 2015 09:26

On February 24, 2015, shortly after noon, the CROSS Corsen received an emergency call regarding a Ukrainian crew member aboard the container vessel 'Anne Sibum.' The ship was navigating approximately 53 nautical miles southwest of the Crozon peninsula en route to Rotterdam, when the sailor began experiencing severe chest pain. Following a thorough consultation involving the Maritime Medical Consultation Center (MMCC) in Toulouse, the Medical Maritime Coordination in Finistère, and CROSS Corsen, a decision was made to initiate a medical evacuation. A Cayman helicopter was deployed and took flight from the naval air base at Lanvéoc-Poulmic at 1 p.m., equipped with a medical team ready to assist. Upon arrival at the location around 1:32 p.m., the experienced crew hoisted the medical team onto the 'Anne Sibum.' After providing prompt medical attention, the patient was subsequently hoisted into the helicopter at 2:22 p.m. The helicopter successfully transported the injured sailor to the Cavale Blanche Hospital in Brest, where medical staff was prepared to receive him upon arrival at 2:31 p.m., ensuring he received the necessary care.
