In a rapid response operation, the Indian Coast Guard successfully evacuated an injured crew member from the container ship 'Cornelia Maersk' as it navigated approximately 87 nautical miles off the coast of Kochi. This emergency medical evacuation came in response to a distress call from the vessel, which was traveling from Kandla. The injured individual, a Filipino mariner, suffered from second-degree burns and necessitated immediate medical care. The operation was expertly coordinated by the maritime rescue sub-centre in Kochi. An ALH MK-III helicopter from the 845 Squadron of the Coast Guard Air Enclave, along with ICGS 'Arnvesh', was deployed for the mission. With precision and skill, the helicopter crew performed a sea-based winching operation to safely retrieve the injured mariner from the ship and ensure he received the urgent help he required.
