Collision in Valencia Harbor: Vehicle Carrier 'Eco Valencia' Devastates Mussel Farms
On July 19, 2026, a major maritime incident unfolded at the Port of Valencia, causing a significant blow to local mussel farming operations. The Valencia Mussel Growers Association reported that the vehicle carrier 'Eco Valencia' lost its mooring and became adrift within the port, heading toward the La Xita area, renowned for its mussel cultivation. The vessel collided with two mussel rafts, leading to devastating consequences. One raft sank completely, while the other, belonging to the Concha farm, sustained extensive structural damage. The impact resulted in substantial losses for the mussel growers, particularly affecting the July and August harvest, a crucial period for marketing their products. The Polit farm was the most severely affected, as it was entirely destroyed in the incident. The damages to the Concha farm included significant harm to its port side, affecting both the bow and stern, as well as critical damage to protective netting and an outrigger structure. As a result, the Concha farm faced a halt in production during the summer season, leading to economic challenges for the producers.
