The oil tanker 'Fortunato' has been under detention in Antwerp's 4th dock since July 29, 2026, following an inspection conducted by the FPS Mobility. The inspection revealed critical deficiencies related to safety measures, including the firefighting system and rescue equipment, as well as serious concerns regarding hygiene and living conditions aboard the vessel, specifically in the kitchen, air conditioning, and hot water supply. Additionally, several crucial onboard documents were found to be outdated. The ship is owned by Lunasol Polaris, based in Sint-Martens-Latem, Belgium, which has upheld a strong reputation in the industry. Following the inspection, Lunasol Polaris attributed the lapses in safety and hygiene to issues with its previous technical management subcontractor, which has since been replaced. Acquired in April 2023, the 'Fortunato' had already been undergoing improvements. Earlier this year, Lunasol Polaris commissioned an external audit to assess the ship's overall condition, leading to the replacement of the former technical manager, Transgas of Peru, with V-Ships, a well-established firm located in London. Although some repairs were initiated, the ship's busy sailing schedule hindered the complete resolution of the identified problems. The intervention by FPS Mobility has expedited Lunasol Polaris's plans for addressing these deficiencies. The owner is now collaborating closely with V-Ships to rectify the issues promptly. Following the resolution of the detention, which is anticipated to conclude in the week of August 17, the 'Fortunato' is scheduled to head to a dry dock for extensive refurbishments. During this dry-docking phase, the vessel will be restored to optimal operating conditions, in addition to undertaking the necessary special survey originally set for February 2027.

On February 23, 2021, the United States Coast Guard executed a vital medevac operation off the coast of Port Aransas, Texas, assisting a 41-year-old crew member aboard the tanker vessel 'Fortunato'. The incident unfolded when watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi received a distress call at 9:40 a.m. via mobile phone, reporting a crew member in distress due to severe facial swelling. Responding swiftly, a dedicated crew from Station Port Aransas launched a 45-foot Response Boat–Medium to reach the tanker. Upon arrival, they successfully boarded the vessel, provided immediate assistance to the ailing crew member, and transported him back to Station Port Aransas, where emergency medical services personnel were on standby to ensure he received the necessary care.

On January 19, 2020, at 5 a.m., the tanker 'Fortunato' was targeted by two armed intruders at the Cartagena anchorage, specifically at coordinates 10° 19' 01.2" N, 75° 31' 24.6" W. The assailants, wielding a machete, were spotted on the forecastle of the vessel. Promptly sounding the alarm, the crew gathered in response to the situation. Upon noticing the heightened alertness of the crew, the intruders hastily retreated and escaped the scene. Authorities were immediately informed, and a Coast Guard team was dispatched for a thorough inspection of the vessel. Fortunately, the crew reported that no items were stolen during the incident.
