IRGC Navy Intercepts Tankers, Sends Warning to 'Sea V'
On August 19, 2026, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy successfully turned back the tanker 'Sea V', marking a significant moment amidst rising tensions in the region. Unlike recent aggressive actions targeting vessels linked to the UAE, the IRGC opted for a warning approach in this incident. Over a span of just 24 hours, two tankers associated with China decided to abort their outbound journeys through the vital Strait of Hormuz. The first, identified as the 'Sea V', was en route from Iraq and was anchored near the strait's entrance from the Persian Gulf. Another vessel, the 'Hestia', chose to halt its voyage at the entrance into the Persian Gulf, ultimately finding refuge at the Khor Fakkan anchorage. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong-flagged tanker 'Erecter' also positioned itself to anchor in the Persian Gulf, seemingly refraining from attempting to exit. In contrast, two tankers connected to South Korea's Sinokor managed to navigate through the southern route of the strait. The Liberia-registered 'Prosperity' entered the strait while operating in dark mode and later anchored near Dubai, while its counterpart, the 'Singapore Prosperity', also registered in Liberia and managed by Sinokor, executed a dark exit and found an anchorage off Fujairah.
