They instructed the 'Kotka' to accelerate to its maximum transit speed towards a designated rendezvous point east of the Leeward Islands. In preparation for the medevac, the Coast Guard positioned an MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter crew in Sint Maarten on the afternoon of September 18, effectively shortening the distance for the critical medical evacuation. Additionally, an HC-144 Ocean Sentry maritime patrol aircraft launched from Miami, facilitating continuous communication, navigation guidance, and air escort during the operation. The MH-60T Jayhawk successfully met the 'Kotka' approximately 100 nautical miles east of St. Maarten, where a Coast Guard rescue swimmer was deployed to assist with the operation. Working in conjunction with the ship’s crew, the rescue swimmer helped prepare the incapacitated mariner for hoisting to safety aboard the helicopter.
