The Newsun-Unity: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On August 25, 2026, the bulk carrier 'Newsun Unity' faced significant scrutiny and subsequent detention while docked in Yingkou. The vessel was flagged for five notable deficiencies that raised concerns regarding its seaworthiness and compliance with maritime safety regulations. The issues identified included inadequate water and weathertight conditions, particularly with the ventilators and air pipes, listed under IMO deficiency code 202603108. Furthermore, the cargo operations onboard were criticized for lacking appropriate lashing material and an updated Cargo Securing Manual, referenced under codes 06104 and 06101, respectively. The same water and weathertight issues were cited again under the same conditions as the initial report. Lastly, the vessel's safety measures were called into question, particularly regarding the embarkation arrangements for survival craft, listed under code 11124. It is important to note that these deficiencies were not deemed the responsibility of the Recognized Organization (RO). The detention of 'Newsun Unity' emphasizes the ongoing need for rigorous adherence to safety protocols within the maritime industry.
