From Corsican Routes to Dubai's Shores: The Journey of Mega-Express-Five

The maritime landscape is witnessing significant changes with the recent sale of the ferry Mega-Express-Five from Corsica Ferries to Tarco Marine in Dubai. This marks another strategic move by Tarco Marine, which has previously expanded its fleet with vessels like the 'Corsica Marina Seconda' and 'Corsica Victoria.' In a bid to enhance its operations further, Tarco Marine will phase out the Mega-Express-Five, replacing it with the 'Stena Vision,' which has recently served the Rosslare-Cherbourg route and will now be rebranded as the 'Mega Serena.' This transition signifies a shift in operational strategies for both companies, with the Mega-Express-Five concluding its connections between southern France, Corsica, and Golfo Aranci in Sardinia.

In an interesting twist, the legacy of the Mega-Express-Five partially continues in the maritime sector through its successor, the 'Mega X.' Recently acquired by Bridgemans Services Group, this vessel has been retrofitted into a floatel, featuring 275 cabins equipped with a gym, office spaces, and recreational facilities. This conversion aligns with the booming global demand for workforce accommodations, particularly in support of large-scale LNG and energy projects.

As the 'Mega X' embarked on its journey to Walvis Bay after a brief stop in Las Palmas, it has already begun to emerge as an essential asset for Bridgemans Services Group, anticipating its deployment to major projects starting in Spring 2026. Originally known as the 'Phoenix Express,' this vessel has a rich operational history dating back to its construction in 1993 and its acquisition by Corsica Ferries in 2006. This trajectory showcases the evolution of maritime vessels, transitioning from passenger ferries to essential accommodations in the energy sector, while the Mega-Express-Five closes its chapter in passenger transport, marking a significant shift in its maritime journey.
