Troubles Mount for Alevtin-Shelkovnikov Amid Repair Delays and Past Incidents

The Alevtin-Shelkovnikov, a notable vessel currently docked at the Tuzla shipyard, has been facing significant challenges as it undergoes repairs following a fire incident that occurred in April 2023. As of June 16, the ship remains stationary, with the owners providing a new set of spare parts to facilitate the completion of the ongoing repairs to its accommodation block.

This situation echoes the plight of another vessel, the 'Sormovskiy 118', which also faced its share of misfortunes while docked in Tuzla. On April 17, 2019, the 'Sormovskiy 118' experienced a fire in its superstructure shortly after entering the Astaş Shipyard for maintenance. Fortunately, swift action from fire response teams minimized damage and prevented any injuries, allowing for repairs to be completed effectively in the same yard.

Before its fire incident, the 'Sormovskiy 118' had endured a grounding on the river Don on March 15, 2018, due to a steering failure while carrying a significant cargo of wheat. Although the grounding barred ship traffic in the area temporarily, the vessel was refloated later that day.

The parallels between these incidents highlight ongoing concerns regarding the safety and operational efficiency of vessels undergoing repairs in shipyards. The challenges faced by the Alevtin-Shelkovnikov serve as a reminder of the importance of timely maintenance and the intricate balance associated with maritime operations.
