Revitalizing the Seas: The Journey of the Amera Post-Refurbishment

The cruise ship Amera is embarking on a new chapter following an extensive modernization overhaul that has revived its operations. After enduring significant delays due to supply chain issues, the Amera finally resumed service on February 25, 2024, after completing a major refurbishment at the Remontowa shipyard in Gdansk, Poland. This modernization involved the installation of new engines, propellers, and a bow thruster, as well as comprehensive updates to the vessel’s electrical systems and hotel facilities.

Initially scheduled for a world cruise that commenced in December 2023, the Amera’s operations were hindered by its prolonged stay at the shipyard, which led Phoenix Reisen to charter the Celestyal Journey as a temporary solution to ensure the voyage could still proceed, albeit with adjustments to the itinerary. The journey of the Celestyal Journey was ultimately cut short, concluding in the Seychelles on February 2, 2024, while the Amera was still undergoing final trials at sea.

Now fully equipped and following acceptance tests conducted in the Baltic Sea, the Amera has made a triumphant return, marking its operational stop at the Ostsee Quay in Kiel on February 13, 2024. This stop was vital for completing food provisions and accommodating crew before setting sail to Gran Canaria, where it began welcoming passengers.

The current itinerary saw the Amera pivot towards South America due to the geopolitical climate affecting routes through the Red Sea. Passengers can now look forward to exploring destinations including Mindelo, Praia, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, and even a round trip around Cape Horn before the original world cruise schedule resumes in Peru mid-April.

Once the world cruise concludes in mid-May, the Amera is poised to offer continued service from Bremerhaven. Its recent upgrades not only enhance the safety and efficiency of the ship but also improve guest experiences, with several cabins receiving new bathrooms and refreshed decor.
