American-Triumph, a vessel specifically designated for pollock fishing in Alaskan waters, has faced a series of significant health-related incidents—including two emergency medevacs and a major COVID-19 outbreak among its crew—highlighting the ongoing challenges of operating in remote maritime environments.

In one poignant episode, on September 4, 2022, the US Coast Guard executed a medevac operation near Kodiak, Alaska, responding to a crew member aboard the American-Triumph who exhibited potential heart attack-like symptoms. The Coast Guard's swift and effective response involved diverting an aircrew from a training mission to hoist the patient and facilitate immediate medical assistance, ensuring the crew member received necessary healthcare at Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center.

Earlier, on February 28, 2021, a another medevac highlighted the vessel's precarious operational environment when a 31-year-old female crew member required urgent medical attention due to an allergic reaction. This incident required coordination with Health Force Partners and culminated in a timely helicopter evacuation by a Jayhawk aircrew from Air Station Kodiak, showcasing the critical role of Coast Guard operations in safeguarding crew health at sea.

However, the American-Triumph was not only challenged by acute health emergencies. In mid-July 2020, a COVID-19 outbreak aboard the ship was a harrowing reminder of the virus's reach into maritime operations. After a departure from Oregon with 119 crew members, symptoms began to appear in some crew two weeks later, leading to a testing and quarantine protocol once the vessel docked in Unalaska. Ultimately, 85 crew members tested positive for the virus, prompting extensive health management measures. While negative cases were evacuated for monitoring and quarantine, the confirmed cases faced further screenings before being transported to Anchorage for isolation. The ship subsequently underwent a thorough disinfection process to mitigate any further spread.
