Balvenie has faced a series of maritime challenges that underscore the complexities of modern shipping. Most recently, the vessel was involved in a noteworthy incident at the port of Aveiro on April 20, 2021, where the 'Nordic Nelly' allided with a pier during its berthing process. This unfortunate event resulted in damage to the wharf and ground equipment, prompting investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, and the environment remained unaffected as no pollution was detected. Following the incident, the tanker departed Aveiro on April 23, bound for Bilbao, with a successful arrival recorded on April 25.

Building on its history, the 'Nordic Nelly' faced steering loss when departing from Tees on June 5, 2018. This issue necessitated assistance from the tug 'Fiery Cross' and another tug, enabling it to safely return to port at the QE2 berth. After recovering from the steering troubles, the tanker arrived at Antwerp on June 21 and undertook repairs at Antwerp Shiprepair. This delay lasted for several weeks, with the vessel finally setting sail on July 18 at 6 p.m., making its way to Harwich.
