Al-Qibla-Express: Navigating Challenges from Engine Failures to Stormy Seas

The maritime journey of the vessel Al-Qibla-Express has recently been marked by several noteworthy incidents that exemplify the unpredictable nature of seafaring operations. On December 30, 2018, the ship experienced a critical event when it suffered a total loss of engine power while departing the berth at Delta Port in British Columbia. The vessel, positioned at coordinates 48 59.81 N, 123 10.37 W, faced immediate challenges; however, the crew swiftly conducted necessary repairs and the ship was able to resume its voyage to Seattle. The Al-Qibla-Express successfully berthed at the SSA Terminal 18 Container Terminal on December 31, where it remained stationary until January 3, 2019.

In a different setting, the Al-Qibla-Express encountered severe weather challenges while docked in Hamburg. On May 5, 2015, the effects of a thunderstorm caused gusts strong enough to break loose the vessel from its moorings in Waltershof Port. This incident led to a colliding scenario with the 'Kuala Lumpur Express', highlighting the risks posed by extreme weather conditions in busy shipping lanes. Emergency response was promptly activated, with tugs and local authorities intervening to secure the drifting ships.

Recalling the tempestuous conditions, on May 6, 2015, after leaving Hamburg, the Kuala Lumpur Express reported damage due to the collision with the Al-Qibla-Express amidst turbulent winds gusting up to 120 km/h. The aftermath of this storm not only affected these two vessels but also several others moored nearby, causing significant disruptions and necessitating extensive assistance from Hamburg Port Authority. Fortunately, no dangerous goods were spilled, despite over 100 containers tipping at the ports.
