The Annette-Essberger has faced several noteworthy incidents in recent months, demonstrating the persistent challenges of maritime operations. On February 8, 2019, the vessel, carrying 5,400 metric tonnes of methanol, encountered an engine failure six nautical miles east of Spurn Point, in position 53 32.30 N, 000 17.20 E. With a crew of 15 on board, the team quickly identified the issue as a faulty defector. Following successful repairs, the vessel continued its course from Immingham to Kingston upon Hull, where it successfully berthed around 10 p.m., with assistance from the tug Svitzer Laura for berthing operations.

Most recently, on March 25, 2019, the Annette-Essberger suffered another engine failure while drifting in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, off the Anticosti Islands in Quebec, at position 49 12 18 N, 63 40 00 W. Repair efforts were initiated promptly by the crew while the vessel was adrift, and it managed to resume its voyage towards Montreal with an estimated time of arrival set for March 27 at 3 a.m.

In a significant development, the Annette-Essberger has recently been sold to clients of Borealis for 35 million USD. This transaction not only marks a new chapter for the vessel but also reflects the continuing demand and investment in the maritime sector despite operational challenges.
