The Betancuria-Express has recently faced a series of operational challenges, prompting significant adjustments and responses from its managing company, Fred. Olsen. This high-speed ferry, which operates between La Luz and Morro Jable, encountered issues with one of its four main engines that necessitated a pause in service for repairs. From July 20 to August 11, the ferry's schedule will be modified to accommodate the necessary maintenance operations, seeking to address the problems that had caused slight delays due to the vessel’s reduced speed.

This comes on the heels of another incident on July 5, 2019, when the Betancuria-Express suffered technical difficulties while navigating between Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Morro Jable. Facing adverse weather conditions with gusts exceeding 30 knots, the ferry experienced damage to one of its waterjet turbines, which prevented it from docking in Morro Jable. Subsequently, with 430 passengers aboard, the vessel was forced to return to Gran Canaria. Fortunately, after completing necessary repairs, it successfully made the journey to Morro Jable later that same day, with the company promising to refund tickets to affected passengers.
