Bos-Theia: From Rescues to Maritime Threats and New Ventures

The Bos-Theia has recently been in the maritime spotlight for a series of notable events. Most significantly, this vessel has garnered attention due to its involvement in humanitarian efforts, potential threats facing supply ships, and strategic upgrades aimed at enhancing its operational capabilities.

In a remarkable act of courage, the Bos-Theia played a crucial role in a rescue operation off the coast of Libya back in July 2013, successfully saving 110 migrants from a sinking rubber boat. Under the command of the captain, the vessel responded to a distress call from the Italian Coastguard and managed to transfer all passengers safely to the ship’s main deck before proceeding to Tripoli for further assistance. Fortunately, the ship was able to extinguish a small fire in its engine room and managed to sail safely away from potential disaster, suffering no injuries among the crew.

DMCC Vroon Ship Management Srl has announced an 18-month charter agreement that will see the Bos-Theia upgraded and transformed into a seismic-support vessel for Polarcus DMCC. This strategic partnership, set to replace the VOS Hera, aims to enhance the vessel’s capabilities for servicing advanced seismic-support operations across the globe, further solidifying the Bos-Theia’s role in diverse maritime missions.
