Salvage Operations and Investigations Surrounding the Camilla-Hoej Incident

In a series of recent maritime incidents, the Camilla-Hoej has been a focal point for salvage efforts in Denmark. On October 20, 2012, the dredger 'B.G. Stone 1' capsized off Tørresø Beach by Fyens Hoved, raising significant safety and environmental concerns. The vessel tilted and sank, likely due to an unbalanced cargo, prompting immediate rescue operations for the crew of four, who were saved by a rescue helicopter and a Navy vessel within a short period.

Following the incident, pollution control measures were quickly deployed with booms placed around the wreck to contain any diesel fuel that may have leaked into the water. However, the cause of the sinking remained unclear, leading to a thorough investigation into potential issues with the vessel's ballast water tanks.

More recently, on October 23, the platform 'Samson' successfully raised the 'B.G. Stone 1' from depths of 15 meters in the Kattegat. This salvage operation proceeded without incident and with no signs of ongoing environmental impact, allowing for the subsequent transportation of the wreck to the Fayard shipyard at Lindø for further examination and repair.

The Søværnets Operative Kommando is also in the process of finalizing a plan for the complete removal of the wreck, which is positioned precariously on its side. Investigators predict a thorough assessment of the vessel will help determine the specifics of the sinking, with a focus on understanding how the cargo and ballast impacted the ship's stability.
