Carnival-Venezia, a popular cruise liner, has found itself in the headlines more than once in recent months. On October 6, 2024, the vessel was involved in a dramatic medevac operation approximately 98 nautical miles off Cape Lookout. An 85-year-old woman aboard the ship experienced stroke-like symptoms, prompting the US Coast Guard to spring into action. The call for help was received by the Sector North Carolina Command Center, which dispatched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Facility Charleston. The quick-thinking crew hoisted the patient to safety and transported her to Wilmington Airport, subsequently ensuring she received medical care at New Hanover Wilmington Regional Medical Center. It's noteworthy that at the time of the incident, the Carnival-Venezia was en route to the Bahamas, demonstrating the risks and unexpected events that can occur even on leisurely voyages.

Prior to this, on August 22, 2024, the Coast Guard was once again called to assist a passenger on the Carnival-Venezia. The 56-year-old woman required urgent medical attention about 52 miles east of Toms River, New Jersey. After receiving notification of the medical emergency, Coast Guard Sector New York acted swiftly, consulting a duty flight surgeon who recommended a medevac. The MH-65 Dolphin helicopter team from Air Station Atlantic City successfully hoisted the passenger and transported her to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. Details about her condition following the evacuation remain undisclosed, adding an air of concern regarding the health and safety of those traveling on cruise ships.

In a separate but equally alarming incident, a crew member aboard the Carnival-Venezia fell overboard during standard emergency drills on May 10. While undertaking maintenance tasks at the hull in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, the crew member slipped into the water. The crew acted promptly, deploying a rescue boat to retrieve him. Fortunately, he was successfully rescued without sustaining serious injuries, and operations continued seamlessly as the cruise ship sailed on towards San Juan on May 11.
