Coastal Inspiration Faces Ongoing Mechanical Challenges but Returns to Service

The Coastal-Inspiration is back in operation after a series of mechanical setbacks that caused disruptions in its scheduled sailings. On February 3, 2025, the vessel experienced significant issues with its main engine, leading to the cancellation of multiple sailings from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay. These cancellations persisted for three consecutive days, severely affecting the travel plans of numerous passengers relying on this critical route.

The situation escalated on February 6 when all sailings of the Coastal-Inspiration were cancelled, including a busy 7 a.m. departure from Tsawwassen and a 9 a.m. departure from Swartz Bay. In response to the growing chaos, B.C. Ferries quickly introduced the Salish Heron to cover the route and mitigate the impact of these cancellations on travelers.

By February 10, the Coastal-Inspiration was back in service, after a week dedicated to repairs, which notably included replacing key components of the vessel's malfunctioning drive motor number one. This swift response showcases B.C. Ferries' commitment to addressing engineering issues to restore service reliability. Despite these challenges, travel on this route is expected to continue without further significant disruption, as the company maintains service through alternate routes, like the Tsawwassen (Vancouver) – Duke Point (Nanaimo) service, ensuring that passengers have options available during times of cancellation.

The hope remains that the Coastal-Inspiration will encounter no further issues, allowing it to fulfill its role as a key component in B.C. Ferries' fleet and to provide dependable service to its customers.
