Challenges Mount for the Manxman Amid Ongoing Repairs

Two sailings scheduled for June 11, 2026, as well as additional sailings on June 12, were cancelled due to a technical issue. Passengers were informed that the 9:15 a.m. crossing from Douglas to Heysham and the 3:15 p.m. return trip were affected, with a suggestion to amend bookings without charge or to reach out to customer service for assistance.

This latest setback comes against the backdrop of ongoing maintenance at the Cammel Laird shipyard in Birkenhead, where the Manxman has been drydocked since July 15. After conducting the planned inspections, engineers discovered significant wear on the propulsion shaft bearings, which warranted additional repairs beyond the vessel’s scheduled return to service. Such a delay, now pushing the expected operational date to late September, underscores the importance of ensuring safety and reliability for future operations.

During this period, the operator has turned to the 'Ben-my-Chree' to provide necessary cover for the disrupted sailings to Heysham.
