On June 26, 2025, the US Coast Guard executed a critical medical evacuation (medevac) for a 26-year-old crew member aboard the cargo vessel 'AAL Kembla', which was navigating from Balboa to Ningbo, approximately 800 miles northwest of Kauai. The call for assistance originated on June 24 at 9:30 a.m., when the crewing superintendent of the 'AAL Kembla' alerted the Honolulu Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) about the crew member's severe abdominal pain that had persisted for three days. Following discussions with the duty flight surgeon, who deemed a medevac necessary, Coast Guard watchstanders maintained constant communication with the vessel to track the medical situation as the 'AAL Kembla' altered its course towards Hawaii. Early on June 26 at 4:30 a.m., an HC-130 Hercules aircraft was dispatched to perform a pre-hoist briefing and lend support during the hoisting operation.
