On April 13, 2025, the cargo ship 'Able' faced an unexpected detention in the Turkish port of Karasu due to 16 critical deficiencies discovered during a routine inspection. The issues ranged from unsatisfactory living and working conditions to significant documentation lapses. Notably, the findings included unsanitary conditions caused by parasites, malfunctioning gas instruments, and inadequate lighting in workspaces. Essentials such as log books had missing compulsory entries, while the international sewage pollution prevention certificate was found to be non-compliant. The situation was further exacerbated by the lack of an international oil pollution prevention certificate and improper maintenance of life-saving apparatus, notably the lifeboats. Structural integrity was a concern, with corrosion present on both decks and the hull, and crucial components like fire pumps were deemed inoperative. Additionally, numerous structural and electrical installations did not meet required standards. After addressing the deficiencies, the 'Able' was cleared for departure on April 18, resuming its journey to Sulina with an estimated time of arrival set for April 21.
