Emergency Response to Mechanical Failure of Ionas Near Corfu
On December 26, 2021, the Central Port Authority of Corfu received urgent reports regarding a mechanical failure on the 'Ionas'. Promptly reacting to the captain’s distress call, a patrol boat was dispatched to the location, alongside the accompanying vessel 'Ioannis', which provided an escort. Fortunately, the 'Ionas' managed to reach the Port of Corfu under its own power. Following safety protocols, the Central Port Authority has suspended the ship's sailing privileges pending necessary repairs and verification of seaworthiness by the appropriate classification society. Meanwhile, affected passengers were transferred to another vessel to continue their journey.
