The Adamantios-Korais: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On February 19, 2025, the Port Authority of Samothrace received a notification from the captain of the ferry 'Adamantios Korais', reporting an engine failure affecting the port side main engine. The malfunction, combined with challenging weather conditions, prevented the vessel from safely approaching the port of Samothrace. This ferry was on a scheduled route from Lavrio to Agios Efstratios and Myrina, but it was unable to disembark three passengers and one private vehicle at its intended stop. Instead, the 'Adamantios Korais' continued its journey at a reduced speed towards the port of Alexandroupolis. Once arrived, the ferry successfully offloaded eight passengers, three private vehicles, and three trucks. However, the Central Port Authority of Alexandroupolis subsequently issued a ban on the ship’s departure. The issue was rectified after the crew presented a maintenance certificate from the overseeing classification society, leading to the lifting of the sailing ban. The ferry then resumed its course back to the port of Samothrace.

On the morning of May 2, 2024, a significant incident occurred at the Port of Alexandroupoli involving the ferry 'Adamantios Koreis', which was traveling from Samothraki. During the vessel's mooring process, the passenger ramp became entangled with the mooring cable, leading to a deformation of the ramp and the detachment of the lower plate by approximately 30 centimeters. Fortunately, all passengers disembarked without any reported injuries. As a precautionary measure, the Central Port Authority of Alexandroupoli temporarily prohibited the ferry from departing until necessary repairs were completed. After the monitoring classification society provided a class maintenance certificate, 'Adamantios Koreis' was cleared to proceed to Samothraki.

On August 22, 2023, the ferry 'Adamantios Korais' was swiftly repurposed as a floating hospital in response to devastating wildfires ravaging northern Greece. The urgent situation necessitated the nighttime evacuation of a local hospital, prompting the rapid establishment of medical facilities aboard the ferry. Following a successful operation to transport patients to safety, the 'Adamantios Korais' made its way to Kavala harbor, where patients were safely disembarked. After fulfilling its critical humanitarian role, the ferry resumed its scheduled journey to Samothraki at 10 p.m.
