Working Conditions Aboard the Adelie

On June 16, 2010, the Coast Guard took swift action in response to a report concerning the 'Western Seattle' vessel, which indicated an alarming rise in the levels of fuel within its tanks that posed a risk of a potential spill. The dedicated teams from Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach promptly deployed Port State Control personnel along with Pollution Response Teams to thoroughly assess and monitor the developing situation. In an effective measure to mitigate risks, a contracted fuel barge was strategically positioned alongside the 'Western Seattle' to facilitate the removal of excess fuel. To ensure safety and prevent any environmental hazards, both the 'Western Seattle' and the fuel barge were surrounded by containment booms. Further inspection by commercial divers determined that the hull of the vessel was intact and free from structural damage.
