On the afternoon of October 7, 2017, a dramatic maritime incident unfolded in Patras as the Malta-registered ferry "Eurocargo Trieste" (IMO: 9131515) collided with both the "Aegean III" and the Greek ferry "Superfast 1" (IMO: 9350719). The accident occurred while the "Eurocargo Trieste" was preparing to depart from the New Port of Patras, grappling with unexpected wind gusts that took control of the situation. During the mishap, a tanker moored alongside for bunkering was caught between the two larger vessels, intensifying the circumstances. Following the event, the Central Port Authority of Patras took prompt action to detain all ships involved for thorough inspections. In terms of damage, the "Eurocargo Trieste" sustained minor dents and scratches to its starboard bow, while the "Superfast 1" incurred some scratches on its port side amidships, approximately 2.5 meters above the waterline. This ferry resumed its journey to Bari at 6 p.m. the same evening. The tanker wasn’t as fortunate, suffering a breach of 1.0×0.35 meters on its port side in the stern region, located around two meters above the waterline.
