Engine Malfunction Halts High-Speed Ferry Operations in Aegina

Nov 12, 2025 09:34

On November 11, 2025, the Port Authority of Aegina received an alert from the captain of the 'Aero 3' regarding a malfunction of its port side main engine while en route to Agistri. The high-speed catamaran was servicing the route connecting Piraeus, Aegina, and Agistri when the incident occurred. Fortunately, the ferry managed to navigate safely to Agistri, where all passengers were disembarked without incident. However, the Port Authority of Aegina imposed a sailing ban on the vessel until it could provide a seaworthiness certificate from the designated classification society. Following this, the ferry was granted permission for a one-time trip back to Piraeus without passengers to undergo necessary repairs. Meanwhile, the ship-owning company ensured that 21 passengers waiting in Agistri for a trip to Aegina and 123 travelers in Aegina bound for Piraeus were safely transferred to their destinations.
