Position: Catering Assistant

Advantages:

The ship offers a wide selection of snacks, including an abundance of crisps and chocolate, which can be filling. The cabins are reasonably comfortable, providing a satisfactory level of accommodations for seafarers.

Disadvantages:

The quality of food served is consistently poor, often served cold and left out throughout the day. Additionally, the toilet paper situation leaves much to be desired, detracting from the overall experience. Given that it is a Norwegian-built vessel, the plumbing issues are particularly unexpected and unacceptable.

Tensions Rise as Fishing Fleet Confronts Offshore Vessel 'Aethra'

Jun 27, 2021 13:26

In a dramatic clash on June 24, 2021, several fishing boats rallied near the offshore vessel 'Aethra', which was engaged in critical electrical work for wind turbine operations. This assembly was sparked by a social media call to action earlier in the week. The French maritime prefect of the Atlantic responded by deploying the surveillance vessel VCSM 'Trieux' from the maritime gendarmerie, alongside the French Navy's vessel 'Lion', which was equipped with judicial police officers. The officers on board quickly documented numerous violations, including the infringement of maritime regulations set forth by the prefect concerning the wind farm site. Fishermen were found to be navigating prohibited areas, coming dangerously close to the 'Aethra' within 500 meters, and executing perilous maneuvers that violated international regulations aimed at preventing maritime collisions (RIPAM). Additional alarming actions included firing distress flares and issuing threats via VHF radio to the vessel's captain. Faced with escalating tensions and surrounded by protesting fishing vessels, the captain of the 'Aethra' made the prudent decision to evacuate the site to prioritize the safety of both the crew and the ship. The standoff among the protesting fishermen concluded around noon. Upon returning to the harbor, the fishermen were met by maritime gendarmerie officers who initiated preliminary hearings as part of an ongoing judicial investigation led by the Brest maritime prosecutor's office.
