Robbery at Sea: Pirates Target Bulk Carrier 'African Lunde' in Samarinda
On April 4, 2018, at approximately 8:05 PM, crew members aboard the bulk carrier 'African Lunde' detected an unauthorized vessel in close proximity to their location, specifically at coordinates 00°15'41"S, 117°34'18"E within the Muara Berau Anchorage, Samarinda. Prompt action was taken as the Officer of the Watch alerted the crew and activated the general alarm. A thorough search of the vessel revealed that several items from the ship's stores were missing. It is believed that the perpetrators accessed the ship by utilizing the anchor chain, maneuvering through the hawsepipe, and subsequently removing the razor wire and hawsepipe cover to facilitate their entry.
