On January 9, 2018, the CROSS Etel received an urgent alert from the vessel 'Gascogne' reporting that two crew members had sustained injuries due to a cable rupture, located approximately 12 nautical miles off the coast of La Rochelle. Following a critical conference call involving the Maritime Medical Consultation Center in Toulouse, the ship's crew, and CROSS personnel, it was determined that the more seriously injured crew member would require an immediate helicopter evacuation. A Dolphin helicopter from the La Rochelle Navy base was dispatched, taking off at 12:07 p.m. The 35-year-old victim was successfully hoisted aboard the Dauphin at 1:02 p.m. and transported to La Rochelle's hospital center, arriving at 1:17 p.m. Meanwhile, the 'Gascogne' proceeded to Verdon to assist the second injured crew member, aged 54. He was promptly attended to by firefighters at 1:20 p.m. and subsequently transferred to Lesparre hospital for further medical treatment.
