Estonian maritime industry leader, BLRT Marketex, has successfully completed the outfitting of the Skandi Aker, a highly specialized deepwater intervention vessel. The extensive project, valued at approximately five million euros, also benefited other Estonian enterprises, generating an additional 1.5 million euros in revenue. Developed by Aker Solutions, the Skandi Aker is unlike any other vessel in its category, as highlighted by Rene Arikas of BLRT during an appearance on ETV. Stretching 157 meters in length with a beam of 27 meters, the Skandi Aker boasts unmatched maneuverability, allowing it to operate efficiently in any direction. Previously, vessels engaging in oil well operations typically managed depths of 300 to 400 meters. However, the Skandi Aker pushes those boundaries, capable of functioning effectively at depths of up to three kilometers. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the vessel features two underwater cameras that can function in tandem with mechanical pincers, as well as two robust cranes and a variety of fully redundant oil well maintenance systems. Remarkably, it can withstand wind speeds up to force six or seven on the Beaufort scale. The scale of this project necessitated collaboration among competitors during the year-long endeavor, focusing on the manufacture and installation of drilling equipment and structural components essential for the ship’s operations. Following its successful completion, the Skandi Aker is set to embark on sea trials in the picturesque Norwegian fjords next week before continuing its journey to the coast of Africa.
