Working Conditions Aboard the Al-Hurreya

On June 18, 2014, a significant legal maneuver took place involving the ferry 'Al Hurreya' at the port of Safaga. The Mamdouh Maritime Legal Solutions (MMLS), representing client Admiral Salem El Rafie, the Executive Manager of United Captain Group Oil Services based in Alexandria, pressed forward with an arrest order due to a staggering debt of over $900,000 USD owed by the Marine Industries and Services Organization (MISO), a company owned by the Egyptian Ministry of Defense (MOD). The Red Sea Court issued Arrest Order Number 31/2014, which was formally signed the day prior, on June 17. However, in a twist of events, the Safaga Port Police and Port Defense received a tip-off, enabling the 'Al Hurreya' to evade its designated legal predicament by departing the port prematurely, prior to fulfilling its contractual transport obligations. As it stands, the arrest order remains enforceable, and MMLS is committed to pursuing all necessary legal channels to advocate for its client’s interests. The ferry was contracted for shipping services between Safaga and Duba, with plans to return within the next ten days.
