On February 23, 2017, the LNG carrier 'Al Kahttiya' sustained significant damage following a collision with the vessel 'Jag Laadki' while moored at Fujairah Anchorage in the Gulf of Oman. The incident resulted in two of 'Al Kahttiya's' ballast tanks being breached; fortunately, there was no reported pollution from the vessel. The collision punctured the hull above and below the waterline on the starboard side, leading to a compromised deck that was both bent and dented. Following the collision, 'Al Kahttiya' anchored at Fujairah roads after departing from Thamesport on February 6. At the time of the incident, the vessel was actively burning off residual LNG still contained in the pressure tanks, which were considered empty from a procedural standpoint. It is essential for an LNG carrier to be fully devoid of LNG before proceeding to the port for necessary repairs.
