In a significant step towards energy independence, Poland has welcomed its inaugural commercial shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG), signaling a pivotal shift in the nation's energy strategy to diminish reliance on Russian imports. The Al Nuaman, a specialized LNG tanker, arrived at the Swinoujscie terminal on Friday, delivering an impressive 210,000 cubic meters of liquefied gas. According to Gaz-System SA, Poland's state-owned pipeline operator, the unloading process is expected to be completed within the next 24 hours, after which the gas will be integrated into the national transmission grid. This achievement coincides with a ceremonial occasion scheduled for Saturday, where the Baltic Sea terminal will be officially named in honor of the late President Lech Kaczynski. The project, which first began in 2006 during his presidency, is now seen as a crucial component in enhancing Poland's energy security and diversifying its gas supply sources. "This terminal plays a vital role in reinforcing Poland's energy independence and diversifying gas supplies," stated Tomasz Pietrasienski, spokesperson for Gaz-System. On February 8, 2016, the Al Nuaman made its way to the shores of Poland, delivering the second shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) destined for the Świnoujście terminal, as reported by Polskie LNG. This significant cargo comprises 210,000 cubic meters of LNG, which translates to approximately 130 million cubic meters of gaseous fuel. This delivery is crucial for the ongoing commissioning and testing of the terminal facilities. The unloading process is expected to span three days. Qatargas Operating Company Limited is responsible for the supply of this fuel. Acting as an intermediary, Polish Oil and Gas Company is facilitating the delivery under its contract with Polskie LNG SA, the designated recipient for the gas required in the commissioning phase. Following regasification, the natural gas will be integrated into the national transmission system and made available for distribution to consumers across Poland.
