Another case involved the bulk carrier 'SM Roberts Banks', registered in the Marshall Islands and operated by a South Korean company, which was cited for discharging untreated polluted water along the Fos coastline in the fall of 2023. This breach resulted in a fine of €120,000. The most severe infractions were levied against the oil tanker 'Kriti King', registered in Liberia and managed by a Greek company. This vessel faced three violations while anchored in Fos in February 2024, leading to a hefty fine of €180,000. The tanker was found guilty of using an open-loop scrubber that led to the release of an astounding 72 million liters of contaminated seawater into the ocean.
