Nakilat Expands Fleet Management with Acquisition of Al Sheehaniya LNG Carrier
In a strategic move to enhance its operational capabilities, Qatar Gas Transport Company, commonly known as Nakilat, has officially taken over the management and operations of the Q-Flex LNG carrier, Al Sheehaniya, from STASCo (Shell Trading and Shipping Company). This transition was effective from July 6, 2017, and is a part of a pre-announced phased plan revealed on October 19, 2016. The Al Sheehaniya, with an impressive cargo capacity of 210,200 cubic meters, is fully owned by Nakilat and is chartered by Qatargas. The vessel, which was constructed in South Korea at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, was delivered in February 2009 and has been diligently serving in the LNG sector since its launch. With this acquisition, Al Sheehaniya becomes the ninth wholly-owned LNG vessel under the management of Nakilat Shipping Qatar (NSQL). This brings the total number of ships managed by NSQL to 17, including 13 LNG carriers and 4 LPG carriers, further solidifying Nakilat's position as a key player in the maritime energy transport sector.
