The Alessandra-Lehmann: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On March 3, 2025, the maritime safety authorities detained the cargo ship 'Alessandra Lehmann' in Szczecin due to a significant number of deficiencies. The vessel was found to have 23 deficiencies, among which five were classified as serious enough to warrant its detention. The critical issues included: 1) Inoperative alarms in the engineering control room, 2) Incomplete line-throwing appliance in life-saving equipment, 3) Non-compliance of the VHF radio installation with required standards, 4) Ventilators, air pipes, and casings failing to meet water and weathertight standards, and 5) Non-compliance with ISM certification requirements. After addressing the necessary concerns, 'Alessandra Lehmann' was released from detention on March 11. The vessel then resumed its journey, arriving in Riga on March 13.

On July 9, 2019, at 4:30 PM, the bulk carrier 'Alessandra Lehmann' experienced a total engine failure while navigating towards the locks of the Kiel Canal in Brunsbüttel. The vessel, which was on its way from Husum to Tärnu, dropped anchor at buoy 85A on the Elbe roads. Subsequently, at 6:30 PM, two tugs responded to the emergency, towing the ship to the South Quay in Brunsbüttel. The relevant authorities detained the vessel for safety reasons. To address the mechanical issues, the repair company Cornels was called in. Following a thorough inspection by classification authorities, the 'Alessandra Lehmann' was permitted to resume its voyage. The ship set sail again on July 10 at 11:25 PM, with a new estimated time of arrival in Tärnu set for July 13 at 2:00 PM.

On March 10, 2018, the bulk carrier 'Alessandra Lehmann' found itself adrift in the icy expanse of the Sea of Aland while traveling from Hallstavik to Tallinn. Stranded in challenging conditions, the vessel awaited assistance until the Estonian tug 'Atlas' (IMO: 7330337), fresh from delivering the bulk carrier 'Glory Hongkong', responded to the distress call. The tug arrived on the scene and successfully towed the 'Alessandra Lehmann' back to safety, reaching Tallinn's port on March 13 at 1 p.m. This swift action highlighted the resilience of maritime operations in the face of harsh winter conditions.
