Alpha Bravery Bulk Carrier Released After Crew Exchange amid Ongoing Investigation

Nov 18, 2025 13:09

The bulk carrier 'Alpha Bravery' has officially been released from detention after receiving guidance from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). The vessel was granted permission to exit the territorial waters of Mauritius on November 13. This release, however, was marked by a comprehensive logistical and security operation that necessitated a complete crew exchange. During the period of detention, authorities managed to execute a full rotation of the crew on board. In total, 23 new crew members boarded the 'Alpha Bravery', taking over from the original team of 24 who were disembarked. The replaced crew was provided immediate care and escorted to a local hotel for accommodation. Notably, an investigation remains underway concerning the previous seizure of 400 kilograms of cocaine discovered on the ship. As the vessel continued its journey, it was closely monitored until it was safely out of security range, en route to Singapore, with an estimated time of arrival set for November 27. Massive Cocaine Bust: 450 kg Seized Off Mauritius from MV Alpha Bravery

Nov 10, 2025 13:14

In a thrilling interception off the coast of Mauritius, authorities seized an astonishing 450 kg of cocaine valued at Rs 6 billion aboard the MV Alpha Bravery. The operation took place on November 7, when MARCOSS and local police units caught the vessel during its journey from Itaqui to Singapore. The illicit cargo was found neatly packed into 15 bags, each containing 30 kg of the illegal substance. The alert originated from the ship's Chief Engineer, Razil Oliveros, a Greek national, who discovered suspicious tampering in the access to the engine room. Upon reporting his findings to Captain Emmanuil Drossos, a thorough search of the vessel was ordered. The cocaine was ultimately found hidden within the ship's coffer dam, and preliminary tests confirmed its identity as cocaine. Additionally, approximately 50 fishing net lights along with activation batteries were recovered, raising suspicions that they were intended to assist in the retrieval of the narcotics once they were discarded into the ocean. Following the alert, a meticulously coordinated operation was executed. On November 8, around 2:00 p.m., six MARCOS commandos, supported by the Helicopter Squadron, took control of the MV Alpha Bravery, located 24 nautical miles offshore. The ensuing day, teams from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS), Maritime Intelligence Cell (MIC), and the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) boarded the vessel approximately two nautical miles from Port Louis, at around 9:00 a.m., to officially seize the drugs. Captain Drossos facilitated the process, guiding law enforcement to the concealed illicit cargo, which had been secured from the moment of discovery, thereby maintaining its integrity until the authorities' arrival. The operation concluded with the MV Alpha Bravery being escorted back to Port Louis, where various high-ranking officials from security and anti-narcotics units, including DCP Rassen of the ADSU and Captain Binoop of the NCG, were present. Under armed escort, commandos and ADSU personnel transferred the cocaine to two armored vehicles belonging to the Special Mobile Force (SMF), ensuring its safe transport to ADSU headquarters at the Central Barracks. This significant seizure underscores ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
