The Amaltal-Mariner: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On the evening of April 5, 2026, a heartbreaking incident occurred aboard the trawler 'Amaltal Mariner' as a crew member was lost to the sea. This unfortunate event transpired approximately 215 nautical miles east of the Auckland Islands while the vessel was engaged in fishing operations south of Stewart Island/Rakiura. The crew member was accidentally knocked overboard by a float during the deployment of fishing gear. Following several days of an extensive search for the missing individual, the Amaltal Mariner made its return to Bluff on April 8. In the wake of this incident, the Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) dispatched a team of investigators to Bluff to collect evidence and conduct interviews with the crew and relevant officials. Upon the trawler's arrival at port, police were present to meet the returning crew.
