The Amber-Spirit: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On February 28, 2025, the bulk carrier 'Amber Spirit' faced a major setback in Szczecin, Poland, where it was detained due to 17 identified deficiencies. Out of these, five were classified as serious violations warranting detention. The critical issues included: 1) Fire Safety – Essential jacketed high-pressure lines and the oil leakage alarm were missing; 2) Alarm Systems – The engineers' alarm was found inoperative; 3) Life-Saving Appliances – Lifeboats were rendered inoperative; 4) Navigational Safety – The voyage data recorder did not meet regulatory standards; 5) ISM Compliance – The ISM certificate was not compliant with requirements. After addressing these concerns, the vessel was released on March 10, continuing its journey towards Vyborg, Russia, where it successfully arrived on March 13.

On October 29 at approximately 6:00 PM, the cargo ship 'Brilliante' suffered mechanical issues while navigating the river Scheldt near Walsoorden, en route from Antwerp to Dunkirk. The incident occurred shortly after departing the Boudewijn Lock in Antwerp, close to buoy 55. Within an hour, three tugboats—'Union Eagle', 'Union Panda', and 'Fairplay XIV'—arrived from Antwerp to assist in the situation. They successfully towed the distressed vessel to a safe anchorage at Terneuzen for necessary inspections. The tugboat 'Evergem' was also on standby, ready to provide support. After being anchored from 10:00 PM until 4:45 PM on October 30, the 'Brilliante' navigated into the Scheldt lock harbor in Flushing at 6:00 PM, where it has remained since.

On October 28, 2012, the general cargo ship Brilliante encountered an unexpected engine failure while navigating from Antwerp to Dunkirk. Fortunately, the vessel managed to arrive at Terneuzen the following day, October 29, either by utilizing its own power or being assisted by a tow.
