Tragic Incident Claims Life of Worker at Mississippi Port

A tragic accident occurred on November 12, 2014, when a worker fell 10 meters into the cargo hold of the 'Gerhad G' while the vessel was docked at the Mississippi Port of the Maasvlake Rotterdam. The incident took place around 1:40 p.m. at the Steinweg Handelsveem on Beer Way. Emergency services were swiftly dispatched, but despite efforts to resuscitate the worker, he was declared deceased at 2:20 p.m. The circumstances surrounding the fall remain unclear, as there were no cargo operations underway at the time of the incident. Authorities, including the Environment and Transport Inspectorate, have launched an investigation to ascertain the events that led to this unfortunate occurrence. As of now, the police have not released the identity of the victim.

On March 28, 2012, at 6:10 PM, the cargo ship 'Gerhard G.' encountered a mishap while sailing from Luebeck to Kaliningrad. The incident occurred near Travemünde, specifically at river kilometer 22 on the Trave River, when the vessel collided with a lit pile, identified as number 9, at Stülper Hook. The crew, comprising nine members along with a pilot, experienced difficulties while transitioning from automatic to manual steering, resulting in the ship deviating from its intended path. Fortunately, the ship sustained only minor damage, but the incident left the pile bent. The estimated cost for the damage is around €15,000. Following the allision, the Lübeck-Travemünde water police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event.
