A tragic accident occurred on November 12, 2014, when a worker fell 10 meters into the cargo hold of the 'Gerhad G' while the vessel was docked at the Mississippi Port of the Maasvlake Rotterdam. The incident took place around 1:40 p.m. at the Steinweg Handelsveem on Beer Way. Emergency services were swiftly dispatched, but despite efforts to resuscitate the worker, he was declared deceased at 2:20 p.m. The circumstances surrounding the fall remain unclear, as there were no cargo operations underway at the time of the incident. Authorities, including the Environment and Transport Inspectorate, have launched an investigation to ascertain the events that led to this unfortunate occurrence.
