On July 3, 2023, at approximately 1500 hrs local time, an incident occurred in the Kiel Canal involving the general cargo vessel Anouk, with a gross tonnage of 2,316 and built in 2000. While departing the Northern Lock in Brunsbuettel, the Anouk, which was headed for Fredericia, Denmark, collided with the moored containership Neuenfelde. The Neuenfelde, which has a gross tonnage of 9,981 and was constructed in 2001, was en route from Hamburg, Germany, to Kaliningrad, Russia at the time of the incident. Fortunately, both vessels only suffered minor damages and were later approved to continue their journeys following a police inspection.
