The Antigone: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On August 13, 2024, at approximately noon, the ferry 'Antigone' encountered a significant issue while preparing to embark on its regular route from Piraeus to Souvala and Aegina, carrying 364 passengers. The vessel struggled to raise its port side anchor, raising concerns about the capstan mechanism. After a series of unsuccessful attempts to resolve the issue, the crew discovered damage to the port side capstan. Fortunately, the ferry managed to safely dock at its designated berth, allowing passengers and their vehicles to disembark. The owner company promptly arranged alternative transport to ensure that travelers reached their intended destinations. Following the incident, the Port Authority of Piraeus imposed a sailing ban on the 'Antigone' until necessary repairs are finalized and a certificate of class maintenance is provided by the overseeing classification society.
