On January 2, 2019, the cargo vessel 'AP Sveti Vlaho' experienced a grounding incident in the Punta Indio Canal, located on the Rio de La Plata, just south of Montevideo. The vessel deviated from its designated fairway due to a mechanical failure. After two days of effort, the ship was successfully refloated on January 4 at 04:30 a.m., thanks to the assistance of two dedicated tugs, 'Emma B' and 'Golondrina De Mar.' Following the successful refloating, the navigation channel was reopened, allowing all vessels to pass without restrictions. The 'AP Sveti Vlaho' anchored at Recalada near the site of grounding, positioned at 35° 10.00' S and 056° 33.33' W. At the time of the incident, the ship was bound for Ravenna, carrying a cargo of 38,680 tons of soybean meal, with an expected arrival date of January 22.
