Working Conditions Aboard the Aqua-Fjord

On June 8, 2011, Hordaland police received alarming reports around 10:36 a.m. about a 32-foot cruiser engulfed in heavy smoke just north of Flesland Skjæret. The lone skipper bravely attempted to douse the flames with a fire extinguisher, but by 10:44 a.m. he was compelled to jump overboard to save himself. The situation escalated until the cargo vessel 'Artic Fjord' arrived on the scene and initiated firefighting efforts. Soon after, additional support came from the lifeboat 'Kristian Gerhard Jepsen' and a unit from the Bergen Fire Department. Upon arrival, 'Artic Fjord' found the yacht fully ablaze, yet through coordinated efforts, the fire was brought under control, and the situation stabilized. Remarkably, the cruiser was prevented from sinking, and the 'Artic Fjord' was able to resume its journey shortly thereafter.
