Live Fish Carrier 'Viking Caledonia' Runs Aground in Loch Ailort

On July 27, 2019, at approximately 3:45 PM, the fish carrier 'Viking Caledonia,' with a crew of five and laden with 60 tons of live fish, found itself aground at coordinates 56°51'12.0" N, 005°42'48.0" W in the picturesque Loch Ailort, situated south of Mallaig. Fortunately, there have been no reports of pollution from the incident. The Stornoway Coastguard promptly requested assistance, leading to the Mallaig RNLI lifeboat being dispatched to the scene. Additionally, the supply tug 'Annie E' was en route to the grounding location, arriving by 8:30 PM. By 1:25 AM on July 28, the fish carrier was successfully refloated thanks to the efforts of the 'Annie E.' Subsequently, the 'Viking Caledonia' resumed its journey towards Mallaig, with an expected arrival time of 4:40 AM. To ensure the vessel's safety, an underwater inspection of the hull has been scheduled in Mallaig for the afternoon of July 29.
