On the night of September 9, 2013, the fishing vessel 'Amazon' found itself aground near Gustav with a crew of four onboard. Fortunately, the vessel was able to refloat independently and set sail towards Naantali. However, concerns quickly arose when the Finnish Coast Guard ship 'Uisko' was dispatched to investigate the situation. Upon contacting the crew of the 'Amazon,' they reported all was well. Yet, when the 'Uisko' arrived on site, they discovered alarming issues: the ship's fuel tank was leaking profusely, with approximately 7,000 liters of fuel oil spilling into the ocean. In addition, Coast Guard personnel identified three sizable holes in the vessel's hull. To address the environmental threat, the Räddningsverket was called in for oil recovery efforts, and the 'Amazon' was prohibited from continuing its voyage. As the situation unfolded, the vessel's engine lost power, leaving it unable to anchor, forcing the crew to await the arrival of a tugboat, while the 'Uisko' remained on standby to monitor the incident.
