Teekay Offshore Partners has halted charter payments to Petrobras, stemming from ongoing operational issues with the 'Arendal Spirit', a situation that has persisted since November 2016. The announcement regarding this payment suspension was disclosed on February 23, 2017, during Teekay's financial results presentation, reflecting performance metrics for the quarter and the full year ended December 31, 2016. The report, published by the Bermuda-based and NYSE-listed marine energy services provider, detailed how the fourth quarter results were notably affected by an operational incident involving the 'Arendal Spirit'. This incident, in conjunction with a gangway issue reported in spring 2016, led to an operational review initiated by Petrobras, the charterer. Teekay has completed a thorough investigation to determine the root causes of these incidents, implementing corrective measures. However, as of the last update, discussions with Petrobras regarding the timeline for reinstating the unit's operational capacity are still ongoing.

Teekay's innovative 'Unit for Maintenance and Safety' (UMS) vessel, named Arendal Spirit, is currently making its way to Brazil aboard a COSCO heavy lift ship. This state-of-the-art accommodation vessel is equipped with 500 beds distributed across 248 luxurious cabins, each featuring en-suite bathrooms, ample daylight windows, and connectivity options such as television, internet, and telephone services. Guests will also enjoy an array of on-board amenities including lounge areas, a coffee shop, a gaming and cinema room, as well as a fitness facility and dining space. The design of Arendal Spirit showcases Sevan Marine’s distinct cylindrical hull, which offers numerous benefits over conventional accommodation vessels, including superior uptime, enhanced stability, reduced seasickness, and maximized deck and storage space. Arendal Spirit is set to reach Brazilian shores by the end of April, commencing a three-year charter with Petrobras, with potential for extensions. This vessel marks the first of three UMS units being constructed by COSCO in China, following their original order by Logitel Offshore Holdings, which was acquired by Teekay in July 2014.
